The Asset 3 Jun 2010
The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has appointed Stanley Ho as head of equity capital markets (ECM) Asia and Simon Qu as co-head of ECM, China joining existing co-head Alan Tan.

In addition, Patrick Ngan has been appointed as head of syndicate and blocks for Asia replacing René Mijné, who is relocating to RBS’ America headquarters at Stamford to take up a newly-created role as head of syndicate in the US.

Peter Irvine, head of equities & structured retail in Asia-Pacific, says: “These new appointments add considerable strength to our equities and investment banking business in the Asia-Pacific. They also solidify our commitment to serving our clients in the region with the best equities products and distribution platform.”

Ho joined RBS in 2008 as head of ECM for North Asia. He has 10 years’ experience in ECM origination and syndication across Asia. Prior to joining RBS, he worked at UBS Investment Bank and at ICH, a Singapore-based financial advisory firm.

Ho will report locally to Peter Irvine, head of equities and structured retail Asia-Pacific and globally to Matthew Kirkby, global head of equities origination and corporate finance. He will also have an additional reporting line to John Mullins, regional head of banking, Asia-Pacific.

Qu was most recently a director of Greater China origination and execution for ECM with Deutsche Bank. He has also held positions in equities at Merrill Lynch, Bank of China and Goldman Sachs. He will be based in Hong Kong and will be responsible, together with Tan, for the expansion of RBS’ ECM offering in China. Qu will report to Stanley Ho, head of ECM Asia.

Ngan joined RBS in October 2008 from UBS and is a key member of the Asian equity origination and execution team. He will continue to be based in Hong Kong, reporting to Ho.
