The Royal Bank of Scotland plc (RBS) has appointed Matthew Kirkby as head of global banking, Asia-Pacific and Patrick Broughton as global head of equities origination. 

 

Kirkby, who will be based in Hong Kong, will report functionally to Marco Mazzucchelli, global head of banking & deputy CEO and regionally to John McCormick, CEO, GBM Asia-Pacific.  He will also remain as global head of corporate finance.  

 

Mazzucchelli expresses confidence that Kirkby’s appointment will help RBS to maximize revenues by increasing the focus on delivering investment banking, financing and risk management products to clients in the region as well as leveraging its global network.

 

Kirkby has over 15 years of investment banking experience in both Europe and Asia. Prior to taking up his current post, he was global head of equities origination and corporate finance from 2007. In this role, he had responsibility for overseeing corporate broking, ECM, corporate finance and corporate equity derivatives.

 

Prior to that, Kirkby was head of M&A / ECM for Asia-Pacific from 2005 to 2007 and head of ECM Asia-Pacific from 2001 to 2005 based in Hong Kong and head of South Asia ECM from 2000 to 2001 based in Singapore.  

 

McCormick says RBS has set ambitious plans in investment banking in the Asia-Pacific. Kirkby’s appointment, believes McCormick, with the former’s wealth of experience in the Asia-Pacific alongside his global role in corporate finance, builds on the momentum that RBS has created already and will allows RBS to grow its investment banking franchise to the next level.

 

Following Kirkby’s appointment, Patrick Broughton will succeed him as global head of equities origination. Broughton will report jointly to Frank McKirgan, global head of equities and Mazzucchelli.

 

Broughton has over 23 years of experience in investment banking, working across European, Asian and Australasian markets and was the head of RBS equity capital markets EMEA and US. Prior to this, he was head of ECM for Australia and New Zealand, leading the execution teams of numerous multi-billion dollar transactions.
