CFA Institute convenes top Chinese hedge fund and investment professionals in Shanghai on August 2 to discuss the changing Chinese investment landscape, with a special focus on the growing hedge fund industry.

The China Investment Conference covers some of the most talked-about topics in the industry — from shadow banking to the search for alpha in a low-yield world, from China’s economic outlook to the global economy, and from accounting fraud to asset allocation.

“Recent developments in China’s financial markets such as the internationalization of the renminbi, the proposed China-Hong Kong mutual fund recognition, the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, and the remarkable rise of the hedge fund industry will have lasting impact on Greater China’s financial landscape as well as the global financial system. The next few years are likely to bring about new products and services to the market place. A crucial aspect of the continuing development of China’s finance sector is building a culture of trust and integrity between investors and financial providers, which is at the core of our mission at CFA Institute,” says Paul Smith, CFA, managing director for Asia-Pacific, CFA Institute. “By holding this conference, we are creating an opportunity for the industry to come together and exchange ideas and insights on how to shape a brighter future of finance in China.”

Nobel Laureate Myron Scholes of Stanford University (proponent of the Black-Scholes Option Pricing Model) leads the conference’s list of distinguished speakers, which also includes Chin Hwee Tan, CFA, founding partner in Asia, Apollo Global Management; Cheah Cheng Hye, chairman and co-CIO, Value Partners Group; and Jiming Ha, vice-chairman and chief investment strategist, investment strategy group, Goldman Sachs.

The annual conference, co-organized with China Business News, has become a landmark gathering for investment professionals in China. Highlights of this year’s conference include a series of CEO Perspectives sessions — one-on-one conversations with leading investors — and a CEO Roundtable with the heads of Chinese hedge funds such as Canyon Capital, Dymon Asia Capital, and Greenwoods Asset Management.
