Flamboyant Hong Kong tycoon in biggest Rolls Royce Phantom shopping spree
Former Merrill Lynch banker and now high-profile billionaire casino and hotel developer Stephen Hung has purchased the largest fleet of Rolls Royce Phantom luxury cars in the world
The Asset 17 Sep 2014
Former Merrill Lynch banker and now high-profile billionaire casino and hotel developer Stephen Hung has purchased the largest fleet of Rolls Royce Phantom luxury cars in the world to service millionaires from mainland China -- the target clients of his soon-to-be opened opulent hotel in Macau.

The flamboyant Hung placed the order for 30 Bespoke Extended Wheel Base Phantoms, valued at a total of US$15 million-US$20 million during ceremonies at the Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood headquarters in West Sussex, England on September 16.

The transaction represents the world’s single largest order of Rolls-Royces ever.  Two of the fleet will be the most expensive Rolls Royce Phantoms ever commissioned, according to a press statement.

Hung, who also reportedly owns a fleet of Bentleys and other expensive cars, will use the fleet to chauffeur guests of his extravagant hotel known as Louis XIII, located on the Cotai Strip in Macau, when it opens in the first half of 2016.

Hung is chairman of the Hong Kong-listed Louis XIII Holdings which is building an exclusive luxury hotel and entertainment complex by the same name covering 945,000 sqf of gross floor area on a 65,000 sqf parcel of land on the Cotai Strip in Macau.

Targeting the super wealthy from mainland China and around the world, the hotel is positioned as “the world’s most luxurious and extravagant hotel and casino”. Princess Tania de Bourbon Parme, a designer and descendant of Louis XIII, is special advisor to the project, while Peter Marino, renowned for designing luxury brands’ flagship stores, was appointed as concept architect, according to the company website.

The signing ceremony was attended by Rolls Royce CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, the board of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Louis XIII executives and a representative from Graff Diamonds.

Each of the 30 Rolls Royces has been extensively customized by Rolls Royce’s bespoke design team at Goodwood working hand-in-hand with Hung and Louis XIII to create truly distinctive vehicles.  Newly-created bespoke elements have been applied extensively both to the interior and exterior of the cars including special clocks designed and created by Graff Luxury Watches.  The two most expensive Phantoms will additionally feature external and internal gold-plated accents.

Rolls Royce Motor Cars has also helped to design the parking and driveways to house the fleet at Louis XIII and will train the chauffeurs from Macau on the appropriate driving and handling of the unique vehicles.
