The International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has re-elected Greg Medcraft as chairman of the IOSCO board. He was re-elected at the inaugural meeting of the newly constituted board, during the IOSCO annual conference in Rio de Janeiro.

The board re-elected  Howard Wetson, shair of the Ontario Securities Commission, as its vice-chair. Ranjit Ajit Singh, who was re-elected chair of the IOSCO growth and emerging market (GEM) committee, continues ex officio as board vice-chair. Singh is also the chair of the Securities Commission Malaysia.

Leonardo P. Gomes Pereira, chairman of the Comissão de Valores Mobiliários of Brazil, was elected as a vice-chair of the GEM committee. He joins Bert Chanetsa of the South African Financial Services Board, who was re-elected as GEM committee vice-chair. All appointments are for a two-year term.

Medcraft is chairman of the Australian Securities & Investment Commission (ASIC). He assumed the position of IOSCO chair in March 2013, one year after the organization created its first board through a three-way merger of the IOSCO Technical committee, the executive committee and the emerging markets committee advisory board. The move was aimed at streamlining IOSCO’s organizational structure over a two-year transitional period.
