Kuala Lumpur-based private equity company Navis Capital Partners said it is selling its stake in a Chinese rock crushing equipment maker to global engineering firm Weir Group.

Navis, which manages US$5 billion in equity capital, is selling Shanghai-based Trio after five years of ownership. Navis in a statement was silent on the value of the deal, but a separate statement from Weir put the Chinese firm’s enterprise value at US$220 million.

Trio achieved a five-year revenue compounding annually at a rate of 20% with earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization increasing nearly three times over the last five years, Navis said. The equipment maker paid dividends yearly, despite several periods of weakness in the global economy, as well as, in mineral prices in the period.

Weir in a statement said it is buying Trio to bolster its share in the global comminution equipment market, referring to the business of crushing rocks.

Trio was Navis’ first standalone investment in China. It acquired Linatex, another manufacturing firm a few years prior, which it also sold to Weir.

“We have always believed that trade buyers make the best partners for our companies after our period of ownership, and this allows us to exit our investments cleanly, even amid periods of public market uncertainty,” said Nicholas Bloy, managing partner at Navis.
