Curtains are raised for this year's top-ranked Astute Investors in Asian G3 bonds, with The Asset Benchmark Research unveiling their much-awaited rankings this year.  A total of 576 investors were nominated for their knowledge of the credits/markets, their acumen in making investment decisions, and/or their trading skill by the top 224 sellside individuals in sales, trading and research. Topping this elite circle is a group of 42 who have been voted as Astute for the past three or more consecutive years.

In Hong Kong and Singapore, familiar names from previous years take centre stage. In Hong Kong, Desmond How and Ran Li at Nomura Global Capital Management, Madeline Foo at BTG Pactual Asset Management and Arthur Lau at PineBridge Investments rank within the top five. They are joined by Rob Stanley from BFAM Partners in fifth place. Stanley is a newcomer to the top group, having steadily moved up in rank since 2011. While Nomura Global Capital Management comes to the forefront in Hong Kong, in Singapore, hedge fund Saka Capital takes two of the top five spots: Mark Thurgood and Gopi Karunakaran rank fourth and fifth respectively. The other investors in this prestigious circle of repeat winners who ranked within the top five last year include Ronie Ganguly at PIMCO, Leong Wai-Hoong at Nikko Asset Management and Charles Ooi at Tahan Capital.

In the UK/Europe, Alistair Ling at GLG Market Neutral Fund has ranked first for the past five years. Raymond Sagayam at Pictet Asset Management and Richard Lange at Stone Harbor Investment Partners are also regulars in the top five league. In the US, Tieu-Bich Nguyen at Wellington Management and John Espinosa at TIAA-CREF rank first and second respectively for the fourth consecutive year.
