Online shopping in Taiwan will soon be made simpler with the launch of MasterPass, MasterCard’s global digital payment solution, on November 19. MasterPass eliminates the need to enter detailed payment and shipping information with every purchase, and simplifies and speeds up the process of completing a transaction from any connected device.

With MasterPass, consumers can securely store MasterCard and other branded credit, debit and prepaid card information, along with shipping addresses, all in one place, so that they can be easily accessed during checkout.

When shopping at any one of the over 40,000 online merchants around the world that offer the option to pay with MasterPass, shoppers can simply click Buy with MasterPass when checking out. To complete the process, consumers securely authenticate themselves with their bank. Consumers are less likely to “abandon their shopping carts” while shopping online as they can check out with just a user ID and a secure password. With MasterPass, consumers also reduce the risk of exposing their personal information over potentially unsafe networks.

“According to MasterCard’s Online Shopping study, over half of Taiwanese respondents surveyed access the internet for online shopping and close to 90% made at least one online purchase in the three months preceding the survey. MasterPass is about providing a better checkout experience to these technologically savvy consumers, so that they can shop with greater ease and confidence,” said Eva Chen, head of MasterCard Taiwan.

In addition to Taiwan, MasterPass is available in Australia, Canada, China, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, the UK and the US. Wallet issuers in Taiwan launching MasterPass wallets on November 19 include CTBC Bank, Cathay United Bank, E. Sun Bank, Taishin International Bank, and Taipei Fubon Bank. MasterPass-connected wallets enable banks, merchants and other partners to offer their own branded wallets that extend and enhance their own consumer relationships. MasterPass will be accepted at online merchants in Taiwan, including Momo, 17 Life, Lion Travel, OB Design, and Neweb Technologies.
