Investec AM gets RQFII license

Investec Asset Management has been awarded an RQFII (Renminbi Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor) license by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) and has now been allocated its first RQFII investment quota by the Chinese State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE).

This license and quota will allow Investec Asset Management to build upon its strong investment track record on the Asian continent, by now accessing directly the mainland Chinese equity and bond markets across their global and regional products, including within its flagship Luxembourg-domiciled UCITS range of daily dealing funds.

Reform in the Chinese investment markets over the past few years has provided an opportunity for international investors to participate through local investment in this dynamic economy undergoing structural change at attractive valuations.

Supporting the growth of its international footprint and global client base, this new capability will allow Investec's investors to allocate their capital on a global basis and to access the future growth potential of China, in a product structure which offers both flexibility and liquidity.

In the near future, Investec Asset Management intends to utilize its RQFII license and quota to launch two new daily dealing funds within its Luxembourg-domiciled UCITS range, one focusing on Chinese equity exposure and the other on onshore Chinese bonds. This builds on its range of dedicated Asian investment strategies, including the Investec 4Factor All China Equity Strategy and the Investec Asia ex Japan and Investec EM Equity Strategies.

John Green, global head of client group, said, "These developments demonstrate our belief and commitment to the positive investment opportunity in China. We have responded to client demand by expanding our investment opportunity set as well as our Asia presence both from a client service and investment perspective."
