Goldman Sachs has appointed Kate Richdale and Andrea Vella as new co-heads of investment banking in Asia, outside of Japan. They succeeded Matthew Westerman, who is moving to London to become chairman of the bank's Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) investment banking division.
Richdale, who joined Goldman Sachs from Morgan Stanley in 2013, was previously head of investment banking services in Asia, while Vella was co-head of the financing group in the region.
Over at UBS, David Chin is leaving the Swiss investment bank where he is head of investment banking in Asia. After being with the firm for over two decades, Chin is retiring, though he will continue in his position until this summer to allow for an orderly transition.
Meanwhile at J.P. Morgan, the US investment firm has made major appointments in two of its most important markets in the region. Esther Yeh was named head of global investment banking for Taiwan, while David Lau was appointed head of global investment banking for Hong Kong. Lau, who retains his responsibilities as head of corporate finance for China, succeeded Catherine Leung, who was previously vice-chairwoman of Asia investment banking, and left the firm in February this year.
