Citi marked its 10th "Global Community Day" on Saturday, with 75,000 employees, friends, and family across 487 cities globally taking part in community volunteering.
Using its global footprint and resources, Citi aims to aid and educate communities they operate in. Last year, the bank was able to serve 63,293 meals across 57 cities and had 22,500 hours of financial education taught to over 19,000 individuals.
"As a company, we have shown that our commitment to the communities we serve includes giving our time and energy," says Citi CEO Michael Corbat. "Global Community Day is now a decade-long tradition of Citi employees, friends and family working alongside community and non-profit partners to help improve our cities and neighbourhoods."
Asia Pacific had the largest number of volunteers, with 30,000 of Citi's colleagues, family members and friends taking part in 140 service activities across the region. In China, more than 4,500 volunteers across 17 cities supported activities related to environmental protection, financial education, and supporting underserved youth. There were charity carnivals in Malaysia to raise funds for children affected by the recent earthquakes in Nepal.
Global Community Day activities in Australia, the Philippines and Singapore also included the Citi Skills Marathon, which matches the background and areas of expertise of Citi employees with the needs of community partners and social entrepreneurs to help with capacity building.
"Global Community Day reaffirms Citi's commitment to the communities in which we work and underlines our long-term partnership with various community partners across the region to make an impact on the lives of many throughout the year," said Citi Asia Pacific chief administrative officer Anthony Nappi.
