The Asset 25 Jun 2015

Amid highly dynamic market developments in the asset servicing and fund management industry last year, asset servicing providers and fund managers that exhibited high levels of flexibility and adaptability excelled and performed better.

It is in this context that the major winners for The Asset Triple A Asset Servicing, Investor and Fund Management Awards were announced during a gala dinner held on June 23 at the Four Seasons in Hong Kong. The event was attended by about 200 of the best and brightest investors, fund managers and asset service providers.

HSBC emerged as the top winner being awarded the Best in Asset Servicing, Best Custodian - Overall, Best Global Custodian - Asia, Best Subcustodian, and Best Fund Administrator - Retail Funds. HSBC's triumph comes on the back of its continuing effort to maintain and strengthen its extensive custody, subcustody, and fund administration networks in the region.

Citi emerged as the another solid winner being awarded the Best Global Custodian, Best Fund Administrator - Alternatives, and Best DR (depository receipts) Bank. Citi's awards follow huge mandate wins in 2014, particularly the Norges Bank mandate (a big part of which involves Asian assets), the Alibaba DR mandate, and the bank's continuing work in fund administration for alternatives.

Other major winners in asset servicing are:

* State Street, which was awarded Best in Securities Lending based on the strong growth of its Asia Pacific business;

* BNY Mellon, recognized as Best in Collateral Management as it continued to offer investment strategies and vehicles that span asset classes and extensive investment services;

* Deutsche Bank as Best in Corporate Trust following the solid growth of its corporate trustee business and strong mandate wins.

Individual leadership awards were also given to:

*Colin Brooks, formerly global head of subcustody and clearing for HSBC Securities Services, who received the “Lifetime Achievement Award for Asset Servicing;

*Ee Fong Soh, managing director and head of securities and fiduciary services, global transactions services for DBS Bank, who was honoured as the “Custodian Banker of the Year for Singapore”; and

*Utumporn Viranuvatti, head of HSBC Securities Services, HSBC Thailand who was honoured as “Custodian Banker of the Year for Thailand”

On the fund management space, J.P. Morgan Asset Management was awarded the Asset Management Company of the Year, Asia besting two other regional asset management firms in a very competitive market.
