George Osborne, the UK chancellor of the exchequer, will visit the Shanghai stock exchange on Tuesday, highlighting China's expanding role in the global financial markets.
His visit is part of a week-long tour of China that began on Sunday and months after the equity market turmoil that rocked China and the global markets in July.
The chancellor has said he is “very deliberately” visiting the Shanghai stock exchange to speak to exchange officials and discuss the financial markets and the events of the summer.
In July, Chinese indices plunged more than 8% in the biggest one-day fall since 2007. Beijing had rolled out measures to stabilize the market and restore investor confidence in the weeks that followed.
Osborne's tour is part of an effort to boost Chinese investments in the UK and improve overall relationship between the two nations.
