The buyside view: Who’s top in Asian fixed income research, sales and trading
More than 300 fixed income investors have voted over a hundred individuals as among the most valuable in research, sales and trading for Asian local currency bond markets, a survey conducted by the Asset Benchmark Research reveals.

Over 300 fixed income investors have voted Johanna Chua at Citi, Edmund Liong at CIMB and Cristina Arceo at China Banking Corporation as among the most valuable in research, sales and trading for local currency bond markets, a survey conducted by Asset Benchmark Research reveals. Chua has been ranked within the top two places in the Pan Asia research category for the past five years; Liong, who came in second in Malaysia for sales, has been ranked for the past ten years; Arceo came second for trading in the Philippines and has been ranked for the past five years. They lead 110 others that got top rankings this year.
Respondents of the Asian Local Currency Bond Benchmark Review named nearly 500 individuals in research, sales and trading. Now in its seventeenth year, the review is the longest-running and only review of its kind that tracks the opinion of the buyside in terms of who is best in the local markets in research, sales and trading.
In the Pan Asia category, Kit Wei-Zheng from Citi also takes top honours; it is the fifth time he has ranked since the review started. Handy Yunianto from Mandiri Sekuritas ranks top for research in Indonesia for the fifth year in a row and is joined by newcomer Leo Rinaldy, also at Mandiri, in third place for 2016.
In India, three salespeople are ranked from ICICI Securities Primary Dealership, namely Vikram Ramani (first), Karan Ahuja (fourth) and Rajat Narang (highly commended). Edmund Liong and his team at CIMB and Carlyn Dulay and her team at Security Bank dominate the sales rankings for Malaysia and the Philippines respectively. Powerhouses in their own right, Edmund and Carlyn have featured in our rankings for the past ten and eight consecutive years respectively.
In Taiwan, Arthur Wu in sales places fifth in 2016, he is accompanied by two other individuals from KGI Securities that are also in the ranking this year. This is the sixth time Arthur has been ranked. While in Thailand, two individuals from Kasikornbank make the list in sales, including Supong Ninsuvannakul who is ranked second this year up from third in 2015.
The Asian Local Currency Bond Benchmark Review covers 11 markets including China (onshore and offshore), Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. It has been conducted annually since 2000. It provides a wealth of data on the product needs of investors and the market penetration of the banks that are active in local currency bonds. It also provides detailed analysis on the investors’ buying behaviour when selecting their counterparties, giving unprecedented access into the minds of investors.
