Exclusive Roundtable

Asia’s grand vision to address its infrastructure needs is, in large part, encapsulated in China’s Belt and Road Initiative. This ambitious plan presents a daunting task of building critical infrastructure along its routes and shines the spotlight on the infrastructure requirements of individual Asian markets.

Meanwhile, bank and state funding restrictions are pushing project sponsors to look for alternative financing sources. While the bond market is a potential funding alternative, project bonds have not fully taken off in the region. Institutional investors, on the other hand, are increasingly looking to allocate to infrastructure projects. Will these finally move project bonds to the mainstream?

The Asset Events proudly presents its Asia Infrastructure Finance Leaders Dialogue, a series of exclusive dialogues which will bring together Asia’s most active project sponsors, lenders and investors to discuss how the industry can ensure that Asia’s infrastructure needs are met.

Dialogue: Investing in infrastructure
As the cost of regulation becomes a fact of life for banks, their ability to finance long-term projects has come under pressure. Meanwhile, institutional investors are faced with a low-yield investment environment. Asia’s infrastructure needs are massive. Together, these three factors may produce a happy ending: the emergence of project bonds.
  • With investors looking for higher yielding assets, could project bonds be the answer?
  • How can banks and investors work together to fill the infrastructure finance gap?
  • What conditions are necessary to draw the interest of institutional investors?
  • What are the risks that can be mitigated to enhance the attraction of infrastructure?
