A lack of confidence has perhaps been the most debilitating result of the financial downturn, given the hit taken by banks on their reputations. The continuing instability is not helping matters, even as banks struggle to offer unequivocal support to clients. But will the financial cataclysm of recent months result in a shakeout and prompt corporates to shift allegiance to relatively safer institutions?
