Senior ECM bankers quit UBS, Goldman Sachs
The Asset 26 Jan 2017
Two veteran equity capital markets (ECM) bankers have quit their post during the past month. Damien Brosnan, co-head of ECM solution for Asia at UBS, was the latest senior banker to leave the Swiss investment bank. He left the bank at end of 2016. He was less than a year into his recent position having been appointed in May 2016, along with Peihao Huang, who now takes over as sole head of ECM. Brosnan joined UBS in 2012 from Morgan Stanley.

At Goldman Sachs, Rupert Mitchell has left as co-head of ECM syndicate to join the Hong Kong-based macro research firm View from the Peak as its chief executive. Mitchell moved to Goldman Sachs in 2014 from Citi, where he was head of equity syndicate for Asia-Pacific, outside of Japan.

Over at Deutsche Bank, Michael Ormaechea, who has dual roles as chief country officer for Australia and head of global markets for Asia-Pacific is retiring after 22 years at the bank to spend more time with his family. David Lynne and James Boyle will succeed him as co-heads of global markets for Asia-Pacific effective February 1, but his successor as chief in Australia will be announced “in the near future”. Lynne and Boyle will continue with their current responsibilities for fixed income and currencies, and for equities in the Asia-Pacific, respectively.

Ormaechea replaced James McMurdo as country officer for Australia in February 2016 after the latter was appointed to run the corporate and investment bank of Deutsche Bank in Asia-Pacific.

With effect from January 1 2017, Credit Suisse announced several new appointments in its Singapore country management team. Benjamin Cavalli is named the Singapore CEO, in addition to this existing role as head of Southeast Asia and head of Singapore location for private banking. He takes over from Lito Camacho, who will remain in his role as vice-chairman for Asia-Pacific.

Tan Kuan Ern, head of Singapore coverage for investment banking and capital markets (IBCM), is appointed to the additional role as deputy Singapore CEO. He takes over this role from Edwin Low, who remains as co-head of IBCM for Asia-Pacific.

Jacky Ang is named as branch manager for Credit Suisse Singapore branch and senior corporate officer for Credit Suisse (Singapore), in addition to his role of chief operating officer (COO). He takes over these two roles from Chien Chien Wong, who was recently appointed COO for Asia-Pacific.
