HSBC Private Banking announced a string of new hires and appointments in September amid plans to significantly grow its business going forward. The bank has further expanded its investment services and product solutions group leadership team with the appointment of Lina Lim as regional head of discretionary for Asia. Based in Hong Kong, Lim will continue the focus on growing the bank’s discretionary business in Asia, overseeing the development of customized portfolio and discretionary portfolio management in the region. She joined from J.P. Morgan Wealth Management, where she was most recently spearheading the institutional wealth management’s discretionary business in Asia for family offices, endowments and foundations.

Rocky Cheung has been appointed head of investment counselling for the China and Taiwan markets. He was previously with DBS Private Bank, where he was head of investment product and advisory. Simon Hwang also joined HSBC Private Banking as investment counselling team head for the China market. He came from Citi Private Bank where he led the China and Taiwan investment counselling team.

HSBC Private Banking likewise enhanced its private wealth solutions business with two senior appointments. In order to build up private wealth solutions (PWS) and provide comprehensive regional support for a growing number of HSBC Group-connected clients, Cynthia Lee is taking on an expanded role to cover the Asia-Pacific. The change means PWS’ structure will mirror that of private banking – the largest contributor of referrals for the business.

Steven Weekes has joined HSBC Private Banking after spending 23 years at Citi Private Bank, where he was most recently head of international fiduciary services based in Zurich, Switzerland. He led a global team of professionals with responsibility for international trust companies in the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Jersey, Singapore and Switzerland.

Over at Credit Suisse, Erica Poon Werkun has joined the Swiss bank as head of equity research for Asia-Pacific with responsibility to further enhance its equity advisory offering in the region and deliver high-quality commercial investment ideas to clients. Werkun transferred from UBS, where she was a managing director and head of research for UBS Securities in China.

Mark Uy also joined Credit Suisse as head of the Philippines’ coverage in investment banking and capital markets. Based in Manila, he was previously an executive director at J.P. Morgan, where he held various senior investment banking roles in their US, Philippines and Singapore offices.
