Visa launches Asia-Pacific eco-friendly payment
Growing demand by banking customers for sustainable banking services in region
The Asset 3 Aug 2022

Digital payment network Visa has launched in the Asia-Pacific region its Visa Eco Benefits, a suite of sustainability-focused solutions that will help its cardholders better understand the environmental impact of their day-to-day payments.

The suite enable cardholders to calculate the carbon footprint generated by their Visa transactions and to access options for carbon offsetting or making charitable donations from their bank's website or app.

Banks in the region that sign up for the suite will be able to meet their customers’ growing demand for eco-friendly payment solutions, which 66% of consumers in the region, according to a Visa/YouGov survey, expect their banks to offer. Over half (52%) of those surveyed also say they would switch banks to access a product or service that helps them understand the carbon footprint of their spending.

“The majority (78%) of people in Asia-Pacific say they are more likely to make more environmentally friendly purchases if they're able to see their carbon footprint and take steps to change their spending habits,” says Chris Clark, president, Asia-Pacific, Visa. “Our bank and fintech partners across the region can now add these sustainability features to existing Visa cards.”
