Dato’ Syed Moheeb Syed Kamarulzaman: Building Takaful IKHLAS into one of the stalwarts in Malaysia’s takaful industry within just nine years of operations

As the president and CEO of Takaful IKHLAS since it obtained its licence from Bank Negara Malaysia in April 2003, Dato’ Hj Syed Moheeb Syed Kamarulzaman has transformed Takaful IKHLAS into one of the stalwarts in Malaysia’s takaful industry.

Within just nine years of operation, the company has built a strong presence in the provision of Islamic financial protection products and services.

It has offered customers a choice of more than 90 products in its portfolio with a comprehensive range of family, group and general takaful plans and riders for individual and business enterprises.

It has been at the forefront of launching a number of innovative initiatives, such as the introduction of electronic cover notes, the sale of new motor insurance policies over the Internet and the first to use electronic estimation as well.

In addition, as chairman of the Malaysian Takaful Association, Dato’ Syed Moheeb’s guidance saw the expansion of the industry with the entry of new family takaful players, licensed by Bank Negara, in the form of joint ventures between domestic and foreign companies.

These new players are expected to help take the industry to the next level in terms of bringing in new technology, more innovative products and enhanced service offerings.

Dato’ Syed Moheeb’s career in the conventional insurance, reinsurance and takaful industry spans about 37 years during which time he has headed local and multinational direct insurance and reinsurance companies. Currently, he is chairman of the Central Administration Bureau and a member of the executive committee of the Malaysian International Islamic Financial Centre.
