Hong Kong’s annual charity white collar boxing event, the Hedge Fund Fight Nite, returns for the seventh year in 2013. Typically held in October, this year’s event will be held on May 30. To date, an initial number of 48 participants have been narrowed down to a shortlist of 18 contenders. The final list of fighters will be announced on May 15.

Contenders of previous Hedge Fund Fight Nite events have comprised a majority of expatriate and Western fighters. This year however, Asian participants Jimmy Heng, a consultant of Michael Page International (Hong Kong) and Ronald Ho, a consultant of Robert Walters International, are on the shortlist. If both successfully proceed to the finals, this will mark the first bout with two Asian fighters.

Another first in the event history comes from a Deutsche Bank representation in this year’s fight. Jim Aldworth and Greg Lee, both from Deutsche Bank are in the shortlist and have promising odds to make it to the finals. With these new representations, HSBC could encounter new challenges in maintaining its unbeaten record. There are currently two representatives from the bank in the shortlist, Richard Gifford and Dominic Smith.

The event will be set in a marquee on the grounds of the Indian Recreation Club at 63, Caroline Hill Road, So Kon Po. Forty tables will be set at the marquee and will be sold in tiers of ‘ringside’, ‘silver’, and ‘standard’, the variation being the proximity of the tables from the boxing ring. Apart from the contention in the boxing ring, other highlights of the event include a charity auction and raffle. Proceeds raised will be channeled to charities Operation Smile and Operation Breakthrough. Links Concept will be sponsoring anew and guests will be able to enjoy their top quality wines with dinner.
