HSBC Global Asset Management has named Cecilia Chan as its chief investment officer for Asia-Pacific, effective February 2021, reporting to Joanna Munro, the firm’s global chief investment officer.

Chan, currently CIO for fixed income, Asia-Pacific, has been with HSBC Global Asset Management since 1994 and has covered Asian markets since 1987. She has been the head of global research, Asia, and COO for Halbis in her early days with HSBC Global Asset Management. Prior to joining the company, she was a sellside quantitative research specialist covering Asia-Pacific equities, with a focus on Hong Kong, Japan and Australia.

“Chan’s deep knowledge of the region, coupled with her robust technical skills make her the ideal CIO to lead the expansion of our investment capabilities,” says Joanna Munro, global chief investment officer, HSBC Global Asset Management.

Bill Maldonado, the current CIO for Asia-Pacific and global equities, will be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.
