White & Case adds project development partner in Seoul
Sungjin Kang brings 20 years’ experience to law firm as it builds out practice in Korea, Asia-Pacific
The Asset 28 Sep 2021

Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its global project development and finance practice with the addition of Sungjin Kang as a partner in Seoul, with responsibilities for advising Korean and international developers, sponsors, project companies and export-credit and private-sector lenders, on a wide variety of project-related transactions.

Kang also has experience advising on transportation finance, and mergers and acquisitions. Kang brings over 20 years of experience and joins White & Case from Latham & Watkins, where he was a partner.

“In recent years, we have been building out our project development and finance practice in Asia-Pacific through further growth in our traditional sector strengths and substantially expanding our capabilities in renewables, infrastructure and energy transition,” says Mark Castillo-Bernaus, a White & Case partner and head of the global project development and finance practice. “We see great opportunity for further growth in Korea, a market with significant demand for outbound project development and finance work and inbound project development, particularly in the renewables sector.”

“Sungjin is a well-known project development and finance specialist and a native Korean speaker, with strong ties to the Korean corporate and finance market,” adds Andrew Clark, White & Case partner and regional section head Asia-Pacific EIPAF and disputes. “His addition significantly adds to our Korean project finance credibility and further expands our renewables and infrastructure offerings, which are of upmost importance as Korea and the wider Asia-Pacific region ramp up their commitment to energy transition.”
