Julius Baer nominates new board member
Tomas Varela Muiña to succeed Claire Giraut, who is about to reach term limit of 12 years

Julius Baer Group will nominate Tomas Varela Muiña to the board of directors at its annual general meeting on April 12 2022. He will succeed Claire Giraut, who is not standing for re-election as she is about to reach her term limit of 12 years. All other current members of the board will stand for re-election.

Varela Muiña (pictured), a Spanish citizen born in1960, has almost 40 years of industry experience, in the external audit and insurance sectors as well as in retail and corporate banking.

From 1992 until March 2021, he held senior executive positions at Spain’s Sabadell Bank, including serving as chief financial officer for more than 20 years. Since 2015, he has been a member of the board of TSB Banking Group in Edinburgh, sitting on the risk and audit committees.

He holds a bachelor of science in economics from the University of Barcelona and a master of business administration from the European University, Barcelona.
