Equinix enters Malaysia with US$40 million data centre investment
Johor facility marks company’s second foray into Asean market after Indonesia
The Asset 1 Dec 2022

Digital infrastructure provider Equinix is entering the Malaysia market with an initial investment of US$40 million to build a new data centre in Johor.

Called JH1, the International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre is scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2024, providing 500 cabinets and 1,960 square metres of co-location space.

The JH1 data centre in Johor, Malaysia, will provide 500 cabinets and 1,960 square metres of co-location space.

The company’s move seeks to unlock opportunities for Malaysian businesses expanding internationally and for multinational corporations pursuing growth and innovation in the Malaysian market. Its Platform Equinix interconnects more than 10,000 customers globally.

The expansion is in line with the Malaysian government’s MyDIGITAL initiative, which aims to accelerate the growth of digital products and services in the country. Malaysia’s digital economy is forecast to reach US$34 billion in gross merchandise value by 2025, contributing at least 25.5% to the gross domestic product by that year.

The investment marks Equinix’s second foray into the Asean region, following its recently announced plans to expand into Indonesia.
