Active investment manager Allianz Global Investors (AllianzGI) has appointed Yu Zhang as a senior portfolio manager on its Asian equity team, reporting to Raymond Chan, chief investment officer, equity, Asia-Pacific.

Based in Hong Kong, Zhang joins from Matthews Asia, where he managed several significant Asian equity portfolios. Over his 18 years of experience, Yu Zhang has covered the whole breadth of the Asian equity investment universe, from small to large caps.

Before joining AllianzGI, Zhang was a portfolio manager at Matthews Asia for over 12 years, managing Asia dividend and Asia ex-Japan dividend strategies, and he served as a co-manager of China dividend strategies. Prior to joining Matthews Asia in 2007, he worked at Aperta Asset Management from 2005 to 2007.
