China Railway 11 Bureau Group wins US$543 million contract in Singapore
Chinese group's Singapore branch will build a depot and associated facilities for the country's MRT's Jurong Region Line
The Asset 26 Nov 2019

Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a contract worth S$739.5 million (US$543 million) to China Railway 11 Bureau Group’s Singapore branch for the construction of Tengah Depot and its associated facilities for the Jurong Region Line (JRL).

JRL is an elevated mass rapid transit (MRT) line, which is expected to open in 2026 to serve the western part of Singapore.

It will be the seventh MRT line in Singapore, and the third to be constructed with elevated tracks after the East West line and the North South line.

China Railway 11 Bureau Group’s Singapore Branch has already completed several major infrastructure projects for the MRT system, including stations and viaducts.

Tengah Depot will be Singapore’s 10th MRT depot, occupying 44.5 hectares of space. Tengah Depot will include a rail administration building, stabling yards, test track, storage warehouses and maintenance workshops. The administrative building will house the Operation Control Centre (OCC) and Depot Control Centre (DCC) for the Jurong Region Line.

The stabling yards will have a capacity for 100 trains and the stabling capacity is supplemented by an additional stabling facility located off Peng Kang Hill Station. The multi-storey bus depot will be co-located at the depot, offering parking and maintenance facilities for about 500 buses. It will also house a Bus Operations Control Centre.

Tengah Depot’s construction will begin next year and is expected to be completed in 2026.
