The Asset Events is pleased to kick off the 12th Asian Bond Markets Summit in Shanghai highlighting recent developments in China's bond market. Estimated to be US$9 trillion in size behind the US and Japan, China's onshore bond market continues to develop with regulators seeking new ways to encourage foreign issuers and investors to enter the domestic market.

About a year ago the People's Bank of China and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority launched Bond Connect as a channel for global investors to access the largely untapped onshore market. In March The Bloomberg Barclays Global Aggregate Index said that it will include yuan-denominated government and policy bank bonds in 2019. In June 2018 the MSCI Index will include some domestic A-share stocks, further opening up China's financial markets. The summit looks at Bond Connect a year post launch, China's role in green finance and how China's credit rating industry is becoming internationalized.
