Citi appoints CCO, CEO for Hong Kong, Macau
Angel Ng to replace Weber Lo as Citi country officer and chief executive officer for Hong Kong and Macau
The Asset 13 Apr 2018

CITI has appointed Angel Ng as Citi country officer (CCO) and chief executive officer (CEO) for Hong Kong and Macau effective May 1 2018. Ng is stepping into the shoes of Weber Lo, who is leaving the world of banking for a corporate position at Hang Lung Group and Hang Lung Properties, starting in May.

In her new role, Ng will assume the overall management, operations and development of the entire Citi franchise in Hong Kong and Macau, working closely with local, regional and global product and function heads to design, execute and embed the business strategy in Hong Kong and Macau and maintain strong relationships with clients, public sectors, regulators, governments and across Citi’s global organization. Ng will be a member of the Citi Asia-Pacific Operating Committee and will report directly to Francisco Aristeguieta, chief executive officer of Citi Asia-Pacific.

Under Angel’s leadership in the past two years, Citi saw strong digital and mobile service enrolment momentum with a 16% increase in the past two years to 73% in January 2018. Citi also saw an uptake in digital acquisition, in which digital acquisition of cards and retail increased several times over to 36% and 35% respectively. Over half of Citi’s loans were applied for online.

Aristeguieta says, “Angel brings to the role a wealth of experience in building market-leading businesses that meet the evolving needs of our clients in a fast-changing, increasingly digital environment. Her strong track-record in building winning teams will be instrumental to our continued growth in what is a strategically important and core market to our franchise in Asia.”

Ng first joined Citibank in 1998 and had assumed leadership positions within the bank, including head of retail banking, marketing, wealth management, and cards. In June 2015, Angel was appointed consumer business manager for Hong Kong, where she contributed significantly to driving the digital transformation and cultivating a culture of innovation across the consumer business. Under her leadership, Citibank Hong Kong has delivered strong client-led growth over the past years and was also the first to launch full-suite consumer Open API platform in Hong Kong, among other innovative service offerings.

Ng is currently the chief executive and a member of the Board of Directors of Citibank (Hong Kong) Limited.

A strong advocate of work-life balance and diversity, Ng was the co-chairperson of the Citi Women’s Network Hong Kong for 2015-16. She is also a founding member of the Hong Kong Women CEO Network which supports and drives initiatives to promote greater gender diversity in the financial services industry in Hong Kong.

Prior to Citibank, Angel had held a number of senior roles in Procter & Gamble and China Light and Power HK Ltd. Angel has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
