Boutique asset and wealth manager snaps up former EFG Singapore chief
New chairman Kong Eng Huat will help the firm with business development, strategic planning, corporate governance, and thought leadership

Lighthouse Canton, an independent asset manager for institutional investors and accredited private clients with offices in Singapore and Dubai, has named the former head of EFG Bank AG in Singapore as its new chairman. 

Kong Eng Huat takes up the role of chairman of Lighthouse Canton Pte Ltd with immediate effect. In his newly created role, Kong will help the firm with business development, strategic planning, corporate governance and thought leadership.

A seasoned wealth management professional, Kong has more than 38 years of experience with several international banks in both the corporate banking and private banking divisions.

In his previous role, he was the CEO of EFG Bank AG Singapore Branch from January 2012 to December 2018. Prior to that, he was the managing director of Merrill Lynch International Bank from January 1989 to March 2010.

He was a board member of various companies including Merrill Lynch International Bank, EFG Asset Management (Singapore) Pte Ltd and EFG Trust Company (Singapore) Ltd. He is currently a board member of Agency for Integrated Care Pte Ltd.

In 2015 Kong was conferred the IBF Fellow Award in the Wealth Management (Relationship Management – Private Banking) segment by The Institute of Banking & Finance Singapore.

Lighthouse Canton was founded in 2014 by bankers Shilpi Chowdhary and Rajesh Sundaresan, who both worked for global financial institutions that were involved in wealth advisory and asset management.

As of December 2018, the firm reported total assets under management of US$800 million.

Lighthouse Canton is regulated and authorized by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and by the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA).
