HSBC Private Banking boosts UHNW capabilities with key appointments
Jackie Mau responsible for spearheading growth of UHNW business in Asia
The Asset 29 Nov 2019

HSBC Private Banking announced November 28 the appointment of Jackie Mau to the new role of regional head of UHNW, Asia-Pacific. With Asian wealth rising at a faster rate than any other regions, this appointment follows the announcement earlier this year of HSBC Private Banking’s renewed focus on the UHNW segment as part of its significant growth ambitions in the region.

Based in Hong Kong, Mau will be responsible for spearheading the growth of the UHNW business in Asia, ensuring that coverage and propositions for clients with sophisticated wealth needs are connected to the full global connectivity and capability of the HSBC Group. Mau will report to Siew Meng Tan, regional head of HSBC Private Banking, Asia-Pacific.

Mau has over 20 years’ financial markets experience. Since joining HSBC in 2003, he has held a number of senior client-facing roles across Investment Banking and Private Banking in both Hong Kong and Thailand and was most recently co-head of Investment Services and Product Solutions (ISPS), Asia-Pacific for HSBC Private Banking. Prior to that, he was regional head of Investment Counselling, Asia-Pacific.

“Since renewing our strategic focus on the UHNW segment, clients are already seeing the benefits of a new coverage model, new solutions specialists and segment management teams, and an enhanced product set for sophisticated needs. Jackie’s vast industry experience and knowledge of the Group will help us to accelerate our growth plans, ensuring that we bring the best of HSBC’s global connectivity and wealth management solutions to serve our Asian UHNW and family office clients,” says Tan.

Following a successful 18 months as co-head with Mau, Abdel Ben Tkhayet is appointed head of ISPS, Asia-Pacific. He takes sole responsibility for leading the products and investment counsellor teams in the region and will continue to focus on driving development of products and investment solutions for clients in Asia.

Tkhayet joined HSBC in 1997 and has over 20 years’ international banking experience having worked in France, the UAE, the UK and Hong Kong. He has held a wide variety of senior roles in both the Private Bank and Global Banking and Markets.

Prior to his current role he was head of FICC and Equities, Asia-Pacific for Private Banking. Tkhayet will continue to report to Stuart Parkinson, chief investment officer, HSBC Private Banking, and to Tan.

“Just as the UHNW segment is key to our future success, so too is the further development of our product and investment capability. Abdel is expertly placed to build on the considerable progress made over the past few years, as we aim to develop a best in class proposition for both HNW and UHNW clients,” adds Tan.
