Technology amid calls for customization
The Next Move
The Asset 11 Apr 2017
Technology is changing investor behaviour in dramatic ways, with many investors now seeking more personalization in their interactions with providers as well as anytime anywhere mobile access to their portfolios, says Mark England, senior managing director and head of Asset Manager Sector Sales at State Street Global Services and Global Markets, Asia Pacific.

WHAT’S THE TREND
1. A recent State Street survey says the majority of investors now use their mobile devices anytime anywhere to access their investments. Nearly half seek more personalized products and services.

2. About 37% of the investors surveyed choose to work with investment providers that can provide specialized services and invest more heavily in non-traditional alternative investments.

3. 36% of investors consolidate their assets with fewer asset managers to simplify investment management,  while 33% focus on reducing management fees and trading costs.

“Asset managers understand the appetite for investors in Asia  is changing; that they are becoming more demanding. Investors want more customization.”

BIG PICTURE
The industry is approaching a cultural shift. The use of technology is across the board.

“Technology is used in assessing investor appetite for products, in engaging investors so that distribution channels are aware. It is in making investment decisions, in appeasing regulators and other stakeholders with reporting – the state of that reporting, the accuracy of that reporting, and the breadth of that reporting.”
