
Franklin Templeton has appointed Nicholas Chui as senior vice-president, portfolio manager, within its emerging markets equity division’s China investment team, with responsibility for leading the company’s equity strategies in the country.
He takes over from the retiring Michael Lai and, based in Hong Kong, reports to Sukumar Rajah, senior managing director, director of portfolio management.
Chui, a seasoned investor with 14 years of investment experience in China and Asia equities, joins the company from BlackRock, where he was a portfolio manager for its China equity strategy since 2020. Prior to that, he spent 10 years at abrdn, most recently serving as deputy head of its Hong Kong-China equity team and lead manager of its China A shares equity strategy.
“Chui is a high-calibre China equity portfolio manager,” says Manraj Sekhon, the company’s chief investment officer for global equity investments. “China remains a key area of business and investment focus for our firm, and he will be a valuable addition to the team.”
