Six spot bitcoin, ether ETFs launch in Hong Kong
Exchange-approved retail funds strengthen city’s edge in digital asset investments
The Asset 2 May 2024

Investment management firm BOCI-Prudential Trustee, in partnership with its sub-custodians OSL Digital Securities and Hash Blockchain, has assisted its fund manager clients in the successful launch of six spot bitcoin and ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs), the first batch of approved spot virtual asset ETFs listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.

Acting in its role as custodian and fund administrator of these ETFs, BOCI-Prudential has established an innovative end-to-end servicing model for retail investors by providing digital asset ETF custody services for the spot virtual asset ETFs in the city.

Currently, the firm is the only custodian and fund administrator supporting the launch of this type of ETFs, which, it says, “play an indispensable and pivotal role in meeting the fast-growing demands of a new asset class”.

Andrew Law, CEO of BOCI Prudential, adds: “The launch of the spot virtual asset ETFs strengthens Hong Kong’s competitive edge in the world of digital asset investments by allowing not only authorized participants to create or redeem fund shares by in-cash, as well as in-kind process, but also by offering retail investors an efficient, transparent and convenient way to gain investment exposure to cryptocurrencies in a regulated environment.”
