Shifts in Citi’s Asia-Pacific consumer banking franchise
The bank aims to drive business growth across the region
The Asset 30 Mar 2020

CITI makes senior moves in its consumer banking franchise in Asia-Pacific hiring Kartik Mani from American Express to lead its cards and unsecured lending business. Prior to being at Citi, Mani was the global head of consumer credit cards and lending at American Express driving business growth there. Mani will relocate to Singapore in July 2020 and will be responsible for the acceleration of lending and partnerships across the region.

Sergio Zanatti, former Asia-Pacific, regional cards and personal loans head will be moving to New York to become the head of lending for the US consumer business. Over the past several years Zanatti has played an important role in Citi’s digital transformation with the cards and lending business.

Fabio Fontainha is expanding his current role as Asia-Pacific head of retail banking assuming additional responsibility for Asia’s mortgage business. In this enhanced role, he will be responsible for ensuring growth in wealth management, which is one of the bank’s key strategic growth pillars for the next 5-10 years.

Citi continues to have a strong digital focus consumer business with half of credit cards and new loans now acquired digitally. The bank is embedded in Asia’s key digital ecosystems with partnerships with likes of WeChat, Grab, and Lazada in Asia.
