Chint, Intec to build Romania’s largest solar power plant
The 542MWp project will power up to 100,000 homes and eliminate 160,000 tonnes of CO2 each year
Michael Marray 11 May 2022

A partnership between Zhejiang-based Chint Solar and German firm Intec Energy Solutions has won the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to build the largest solar power plant in Romania.

Econergy, an investor, developer and operator in renewable energy projects across Europe, has awarded the contract for the 154-megawatt-peak Ratesti Photovoltaic Power Plant, which will be located in Arges county, southern Romania. The Intec-Chint partnership will provide all the necessary services and works related to the design, engineering, procurement, construction, and high-voltage grid connection of the facility.

Once commissioned, the plant is expected to provide solar energy for up to 100,000 homes and eliminate about 160,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

In November 2021, Econergy and Nofar Energy completed the acquisition of the Ratesti photovoltaic project from Portland Trust, with each holding a 50% stake. Ecoenergy said at the time that the total investment in the Ratesti project would be €100 million (US$105.8 million).

The solar project forms part of Econergy’s 1.5-gigawatt solar pipeline under development in Romania. The firm has a 6GW pipeline across Europe, including projects in the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Poland.

Intec and Chint Solar have a long history of cooperation in renewable energy projects, benefiting from Intec’s experience in the provision of EPC services and Chint’s advanced technologies. Intec's recent work with Chint includes the construction of a 328MWp solar power plant in Denmark.
