Citibank Taiwan Limited (CTL) has appointed Aftab Ahmed as its new chairman, subject to regulatory approval.

Ahmed, former Citi country officer for the Philippines, takes over the post from Paulus Mok, who retired as CTL chairman and Citi chief executive officer for Taiwan, effective January 1 2023.

A Citi veteran for over 40 years, Ahmed has previously worked in Taiwan as head of global consumer banking operations and technology, gaining a good understanding of the local market.

He has held a number of senior roles at Citi, including Citi country officer and CEO for Egypt, CCO/CEO for Hungary, consumer country business manager for Pakistan, corporate bank head in New Zealand, branch expansion director in New York, consumer finance head and regional sales development director in Singapore, and consumer banking operations and technology head in Taiwan and Germany.

Under Mok’s leadership, Citi Taiwan successfully helped clients achieve sustainable growth and laid a solid foundation with environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy as a core competitive advantage.

Citi was named the Best International Bank in Taiwan by FinanceAsia for 26 consecutive years and the Best International Bank by The Asset for 19 consecutive years. The firm also consistently won the honour of Best Bank from Euromoney and Best International Bank from Asiamoney.
