AXA Insurance Singapore has made three new appointments with Jeremy Ong joining as chief customer and operations officer, a newly-established role with responsibility for all customer, information technology (IT) and operations activities. In addition, Julien Callard has been appointed managing director, retail, and Mauricio Coarasa has been named chief financial officer.

They will join the executive committee alongside Sean Goh, managing director, life; Kevin Leong, managing director, commercial lines; and Hayley Yap, chief people officer, reporting to Jean Drouffe, CEO, AXA Singapore. Ong and Coarasa’s appointments are effective immediately, and Callard’s appointment is effective November 1.

As chief customer and operations officer, Ong will lead several strategic priorities for the organisation focusing on enhancing the customer experience and driving the marketing strategy, digital transformation and innovation efforts for AXA in Singapore.

He joins AXA with extensive experience in both the civil service and commercial sectors, and he has held several management positions across IT, Sales and Operations. Ong was most recently senior vice president of the Group CEO Office of NTUC Enterprise, where he played a key role in delivering group-wide transformation, ecosystems development, and strategic partnerships including M&A initiatives.

In his role as managing director, retail, Callard will oversee the company’s retail business and general insurance distribution functions. This comes as AXA moves to streamline the business and strengthen end-to-end accountability on the customer proposition, by merging its distribution functions and strategic business units.

Callard joins from AXA Mexico where he was most recently head of retail property and casualty. He comes with a wealth of experience in operational and functional positions across retail, commercial, and reinsurance lines. He joined the AXA Group in 2000 and has held senior positions across multiple countries spanning actuarial, risk, marketing and reinsurance.

Coarasa takes on the role of chief financial officer, and brings with him rich experience spanning insurance, finance, and strategy consulting. He has been with AXA since 2010 and was last chief financial officer for AXA Korea. Other roles he has held in AXA include head of investments and head of strategic planning in Mexico.

In addition to the new appointments, Goh will have an expanded portfolio encompassing life distribution in addition to responsibility for the life strategic business unit. Drouffe comments, “This move will drive tighter integration across the organisation and allow us to accelerate and deliver on our customer-first growth strategy in Singapore.”
