Mirae Asset debuts three thematic growth ETFs
Latest products offer access to disruptive trends in China and wider Asia region
The Asset 28 Jul 2021

Mirae Asset Global Investments (Hong Kong) Limited has launched three new exchange-traded funds in its thematic growth suite, offering retail and institutional investors access to long-term disruptive trends in China and the wider Asia region.

These are the Global X Asia Semiconductor ETF (stock code: 3119), the Global X China E-commerce and Logistics ETF (3124), and the Global X China Games and Entertainment ETF (3117). The new listings will bring the total number of Global X ETFs offered in Hong Kong to 21 products, representing assets under management of US$2.67 billion as of July 22 2021.

Mirae Asset chief executive officer Jung Ho Rhee says: “As Asian companies at the cutting edge of disruptive innovation continue to reshape the region’s economy, we’re delighted to offer our investors the opportunity to access the exciting themes of Asia semiconductors, China games and entertainment, and China e-commerce and logistics through targeted and efficient investment solutions.”

The Global X Asia Semiconductor ETF, which is the firm’s first regional thematic ETF, invests in Asia-based companies involved in the production and development of semiconductors and semiconductor equipment. About 75% of the world’s semiconductors are currently manufactured in the region and several of its companies are global leaders in chip production, especially in cutting-edge chips. In addition, the region possesses leading capabilities in other areas such as semiconductor equipment and materials as well as chip assembly, packaging and testing.

The Global X China Games and Entertainment ETF offers access to Chinese companies providing entertainment and related products, including online games, sports and performing arts entertainment, games and entertainment software, media content providers, and media production and broadcasting.

The Global X China E-commerce and Logistics ETF seeks targeted exposure to the e-commerce and logistics theme in China. With highly innovative business models that combine online retail, social media, live streaming and group buying, China’s e-commerce platforms have revolutionized the retail industry. In addition to a sophisticated digital infrastructure, China’s expansive logistics network played a crucial role in enabling the rapid rise of e-commerce.
