BNP Paribas has appointed Chaoni Huang as head of sustainable capital markets, global markets for Asia Pacific. In this newly created role, Huang will be responsible for driving and managing BNP Paribas’ sustainable finance solutions for corporates, financial institutions and investors with a focus on primary, asset finance and securitization.
Based in Hong Kong, Huang will report to Liang Si, head of DCM & syndicate, global markets, Asia-Pacific at BNP Paribas.
“With her experience in the sustainable finance space and involvement with ESG-related issues in the region, we are confident that Chaoni’s appointment will further cement our leading position in sustainable finance markets in Asia,” says Liang Si.
Huang brings more than 12 years of professional experience and joins BNP Paribas from Natixis where she was executive director, green and sustainable solutions, APAC. Having held various ESG-related roles at Natixis, S&P Trucost, MSCI and the United Nations, Huang brings strong experience and insights in sustainable finance.
Outside of BNP Paribas, Huang is vice president and secretary-general of the Hong Kong Green Finance Association and a guest researcher for the China Economy and Sustainable Development Centre at the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, among other industry-wide commitments. She holds a BSc in Economics from the University of Warwick.
In 2018, BNP Paribas placed some 6.3 billion euros (US$7.10 billion) in green bonds worldwide and was the third most active bank in the world for issuance of green bonds according to Dealogic. BNP Paribas also allocated a total of 168 billion euros in financing and investment to companies in sectors that are directly contributing to the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals last year.
